"DINNER PARTY" QUICK WRITE when we change out perceptions of things we gain new insight. If I had a problem I just couldn't figure out and I changed my perspective, I could figure it out and think "oh how was it that easy". Or I could change my perception and think about someone I don't like and try to see why they do what they do. to help me understand why they do what they do I could change my perspective. For an example I will use a book I love called Warriors. in the first book a house cat gets picked up by a clan of wild cats. And some of the clan cats don't like it and try a coup to take over the clan. now you may not like that they did that but when you change your perspective its understandable. Afterall, their leader brought in a house cat and giving him preferential treatment compared to other cats.

"GULLIMEN'S TRAVELS" ANALYSIS I think the reason for not describing Liliput in more detail is because he simply wants to save it for a greater work. from the first sentence of chapter three " But I shall not anticipate the reader with further descriptions of this kind, because I reserve them for a greater work". because that is what it is. this country is just like most cities and kingdoms, but it just has tiny people instead of actual humans. GULLIMENS TRAVELS FIRST THOUGHTS the details I find amusing in this short excerpt is the description of the different factions. It is humorous that another kingdom rose because of where the king wants people to break eggs. And how there are different factions inside the kingdom about high heels and low heels.

"THE DINNER PARTY" SUMMARY the beginning starts with a American Naturalist dinner party in India, with men talking about women and how they are unable to control their nerves. in the middle, the American watches but doesn't join in on the discussion. watching as a woman talks to a boy, seeing him bring in a bowl of milk. The American realizes the bowl of milk is for a cobra. Finally the American stops the conversation and has everyone stand completely still for 5 minutes. when a snake appears a Indian man shouts out that it was a example of perfect control. the American man responds by asking the woman how she knew the snake was there. she tells him it was crawling on her foot.
