"GULLIMEN'S TRAVELS" ANALYSIS

I think the reason for not describing Liliput in more detail is because he simply wants to save it for a greater work. from the first sentence of chapter three "But I shall not anticipate the reader with further descriptions of this kind, because I reserve them for a greater work".

because that is what it is. this country is just like most cities and kingdoms, but it just has tiny people instead of actual humans. They all live similar lives to someone who would live in a big kingdom. they both have arguments over what people could view as petty reasons. and they don't like other kingdoms because of small differences.

the small endians and big endians conflicts is over which way to break an egg. the small endians want to break the egg on the smaller side while the big endians want to break the eggs on the bigger side. the two factions take their dispute very seriously, even thinking about going to war with each other over this matter. this quote talks about the aftermath of the edict about breaking banning the breaking of eggs on the large end. "The people so highly resented this law, that our histories tell us, there have been six rebellions raised on that account" in my view while swift doesn't take it seriously he does know that when it comes to the tiny people living in the tiny kingdoms it is very serious. so while he doesn't actively laugh at them for fighting over it, he wants the reader to know that while it's not serious to us it is to them.

assuming that this is a French story writer, and this was before the revolution. this story would have been controversial because the king of France was not liked at the time. there was famine and there were no jobs to work. so the king of France could have seen this story as a insult to him and his ruling, having the writer jailed for writing a story.
